Brighton's History

Brighton celebrates the fact that it is in its twenty-ninth year of service.

Brighton Preparatory School was founded in July, 1985. It was originally located at 5500 Central in a small house that was converted to an office. Brighton started with 9 students and 3 teachers. Brighton was focused on struggling students. These were "students who had fallen
through the cracks" of conventional programs for students in the public school system. Our students have always been of average intelligence with various learning disabilities. Brighton offered a very small student-teacher ratio and personalized attention to learning differences in the children. We have always held quality in alternative education as our primary objective.

In its inaugural year, 1985, Brighton began its association with NIPSA, National Independent Private School Association. We have maintained our association over the past 29 years.

In June of 1989, Brighton moved to the building next door at 5330 Central Avenue. The facilities offered our staff and students room to grow in all aspects. During its 29 years. Brighton has always set its enrollment at a goal of 30 students. This has been done to keep its quality and philosophy intact. We have always maintained our small teacher-pupil ratio to be able to address students' immediate concerns.

In June of 1996 Brighton moved to its current facility in Gateway Christian Center at 4355 Central Ave. The present school has its own outside recreational area and access to a large auditorium facility.
